Jobless Claims Decline
According to Bloomberg, "the number of Americans filing first-time claims for unemployment insurance fell [by 11,000] to 457,000 last week, a figure that signals the labor market will be slow to improve even as the economy grows." This slow pace may dissuade employers to hire more and thus maintain the limited job market.
While the number of collecting unemployment aid rose to about 4.487 as of last week, this does not include those receiving extended benefits. The amount of people who receive emergency and extended unemployment aid decreased to about 269,000 in the week ended July 10, but may change since Obama's signing into law an extension of unemployment benefits.
